Howard Foreman Receives the
JLLC’s 2016 Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award

(Story adapted from the Jambalaya News magazine.)

The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. recently announced that CITGO Retiree Howard Foreman is the proud 2016 recipient of the Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award. Established in 1992 to honor Thielen’s memory and loving work as a dedicated volunteer in the Lake Charles community, the award is presented each year to a person, project or organization that exemplifies a true, impactful commitment to volunteerism.

A resident of Vinton, Foreman was acknowledged for meeting the five points of award criteria: variety of community service; outstanding leadership; effectiveness of community service; tenure of community service; and perseverance in accomplishing an outstanding project.

Foreman has achieved many accomplishments including mentoring numerous young men through Boy Scouts of America, volunteering more than 1,600 hours at Lake Area Medical Center, launching a Fresh Start program with the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s office to review and expunge years-old criminal records for men convicted of minor offenses in order that they might more successfully re-enter the job market. In addition to the recognition, Foreman received a $500 grant from the Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. to be given to a non-profit organization of his choice. Congratulations, Howard, we are so proud of you!
